DUE TODAY Performance Task (Should schools be able to censor the books that students read?) HOMEWORK CORNER iReady (36 lessons by Friday) Achieve (check the tracker) Objective: SWBAT catch up on various activities and assignments from Independent Station. INDEPENDENT- MAKING UP ASSIGNMENTS Ms. Francavillo will be conferencing with individual students today about grades and reading progress. During conferences, students are expected to be catching up on any and all missing work for ELA/History OR CATCH annotations for Ms. Bartlett's class. Activities: iReady Achieve CATCH Assignments from Ms. Bartlett Mechanical Hound Paragraph Make up Tests If students finish early, I will provide them with supplemental readings to prepare them for the next ELA Unit. - HOMEWORK CORNER 1. PERFORMANCE TASK IS DUE TOMORROW!!!!!! 2. iReady- 36 lessons passed by FRIDAY 3. Achieve: Check the tracker. 19 total by FRIDAY Standards: W 7.1/2 Objectives: SWBAT answer the question "Should schools be able to censor the books that students read?" by taking a clear position, supporting their argument with evidence, and presenting/ refuting a counterargument in the form of 2 modified CEEEEL paragraphs. DIRECT: What makes a strong thesis statement? Breakdown of the thesis CFS and exemplar essays/outline COLLABORATIVE After going over the paragraph structure as a class, partners will annotate an exemplar response using this key: Label the thesis with a heart Box the supporting claims Underline supporting evidence Highlight the explanation that supports the claim in one color Circle the counter-evidence Highlight the rebuttal in a DIFFERENT color Label the link/restatement of the thesis with a star INDEPENDENT The majority of class time will be spent in writer's workshop. Scholars will continue working on their research, graphic organizer, thesis, and outlining tools. Whatever is not completed by the end of class is HOMEWORK. The final product is DUE TOMORROW!!!!! We will not be dedicating any more class time to the performance task. WEEK 13!
DUE TODAY History test! I hope that you studied!! HOMEWORK CORNER 1. iReady Benchmark for the week is 36 passed lessons. 2. Achieve: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CHECK THE TRACKER ON THE RESOURCES PAGE!!!!!! THIS IS A GRADE FOR HISTORY CLASS EACH WEEK. 3. Performance Task: Due WEDNESDAY, neatly written on a separate sheet of paper. ***You will have time to outline and work in class on Monday and Tuesday. Whatever is not finished in class is your homework due AT THE START OF CLASS on WEDNESDAY. Standards: California History Standard- Review of all 7.2 Objective: SWBAT demonstrate understanding of medieval Islamic civilizations by scoring a 3 or higher on the Islam Benchmark 2 Test. DO NOW- 5 minutes Scholars will have 5 minutes to study their notes. INDEPENDENT- TEST Islam Benchmark 2! When finished with the test: 1. Scholars' first priority after the test is to finish reading, annotating, and completing the graphic organizers for Resources A-D. 2. Scholars may move on to writing their thesis/claims, then completing the "lightbulb" sections of the packet. 3. If scholars are completed with the packet, they may work on their History Achieve article for this week. 4. If scholars finish Items 1-3 early, they may read silently or work on other PLT activities (Achieve, iReady, NewsELA). Tomorrow, we will go over the Outline for the Performance Task, then scholars will have work time to complete their outlines and write a first draft. Please review the slides to help you complete the study guide and study for Monday's history test!!

Standard: California History Standard 7.2.4 Objective: SWBAT describe the major geographical, political, cultural differences between the Umayyad and Abbasid Dynasties by writing a CEEEEL paragraph Do Now- Vocab review Whole-Group: Students will learn about the major geographical, political, cultural differences between the Umayyad and Abbasid Dynasties as we jump back into Ancient Islam, and continue to learn about the spread of this religion. Students will take guided notes, and demonstrate their understanding by writing a CEEEEL paragraph response as an exit ticket. PART 3 QUIZ TODAY!!!

COLLABORATIVE/INDEPENDENT- 45 minutes After closely reading p. 145 and collecting evidence, we will prepare for Collaborative Discussion. There will be time to prepare and ask questions before we engage in discussion. There will also be time to reflect on the discussion at the end. EXIT TICKET- 15 minutes Scholars will be expected to write a professional, level 4 paragraph that answers the essential question. |
