HOMEWORK CORNER
1. Signed syllabus and materials due this Friday (August 17). 2. Dictionary definitions of vocabulary words due TOMORROW 3. Vocabulary quiz 1 will be on MONDAY. DUE TODAY - Standards CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.7.2 Determine two or more central ideas in a text and analyze their development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.7.6 Determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how the author distinguishes his or her position from that of others. Objectives 1. SWBAT determine how Neil Gaiman defines speculative fiction and its purpose by reading, annotating, and discussing the introduction to Fahrenheit 451. 2. SWBAT determine the central ideas in The Fun They Had by completing CATCH notes, writing a summary, and answering comprehension questions with a partner. Do Now- 10 minutes Scholars will complete a brief vocabulary activity. Direct- 45 minutes (Guided Reading) As we read Neil Gaiman’s introduction to Fahrenheit 451 together, scholars will be asked to stop and consider a question about the text. Scholars will have 2-3 minutes to write their answers with their partner. You must write in complete sentences! We will debrief each question together. By the end of this section, scholars should be able to determine how Neil Gaiman defines speculative fiction! We will then spend time "attacking the prompt" of our lesson's 3 multiple choice questions. ***These questions will be graded! Collaborative- 45 minutes (Partner Reading) With their assigned partners, scholars will read the short story The Fun They Had. Together, scholars will complete the provided CATCH notes and comprehension questions. Ms. Francavillo will monitor students to ensure that they are completing the assignment in the allotted time: 10 minutes to read 15 minutes to complete CATCH 15 minutes to complete comprehension questions Comprehension questions and CATCH notes will be turned in to be reviewed by Ms. Francavillo. With any time remaining, scholars will complete their first Metacognitive Learning Log, then either finish their iReady diagnostic or begin/continue new iReady lessons. Comments are closed.
