Please make sure to use the Longman Dictionary ONLY to find your definitions. Click here for Longman Dictionary 2. 3 passed iReady lessons are due on Friday. **Scholars: I have noticed a regression of grades this week, because not all scholars are starting iReady lessons. Please do not let this pattern continue!!! If you need extra time to complete lessons during lunch because you do not have a computer at home, please let me know. DUE TODAY - Standards CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.7.2 Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.7.3 Analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact (e.g., how setting shapes the characters or plot). Objective SWBAT analyze how Ray Bradbury characterizes Montag by determining the meanings of images in the text. Do Now- 5 minutes Have all items ready on your desk. Please write down the homework and read silently. Independent Station students will begin their iReady assignments right away. Direct Station- 55 minutes per rotation We will be reading the first 2 pages of Fahrenheit 451 today. Scholars will be given a packet for the week that they must keep safe. This packet is where they will be taking all notes, doing independent and class work, and completing exit tickets. We will be reading the text 3 times. Read 1: Ms. Francavillo will model fluent reading. Read 2: Scholars will re-read and determine who the section is about, and what the character is doing. Read 3: Ms. Francavillo will point out key images in the text. Scholars will be determining what each image means and how each image helps the reader understand Montag's character. We will close out this station with an exit ticket. Independent Station- 55 minutes per rotation Group A: Students that begin class in the independent station will be completing iReady lessons. Scholars are expected to follow Independent Station rules and expectations: 1. NO talking or communicating with other students. 2. On task at all times 3. Proper use of nonverbal signals Group B: Students in the second rotation will read pages 2-7 (end at "...door shut gently") in the book. They will complete the comprehension questions on page 4 of the packet. When finished, Group B scholars will complete a Learning Log and continue on iReady. Exit Ticket- 10 minutes (to take place at end of Direct Station) Prompt: How does Bradbury characterize Montag in the beginning pages of Fahrenheit 451? Your response will take the form of a CEEEEL paragraph. Checklist for Success:
Comprehension Questions: As Montag leaves the fire station, who does he meet on his walk home? What does this person look like? Why is Clarisse out walking? What new information does the reader learn about Montag’s profession? Why was Clarisse’s uncle arrested? What does the reader learn about the world of Fahrenheit 451 after learning this information?
